Flanders, Retranchement, The Netherlands
After years of chiselling and gouging, Joop van Egmond (MOND) reached a high level in wood carving. This color print with as many as seven blocks proves that. Retranchement is a place in the municipality of Sluis, in the Dutch Province of Zeeland. The place, in the west of the Zeeland Flanders region, is located on the border with Belgium between the Belgian Knokke-Heist and the Dutch Cadzand. The walled village of Retranchement is a remnant of a much larger set of fortifications intended to protect the Republic. In 1604, a modest reinforcement was built by Prince Maurice. This artwork comes with an aluminum BARTH 1828 frame (color silver satin) and is protected with anti-reflective glass.
