As of January 1, 2006, the municipality of Valkenburg (ZH) merged with the municipalities of Katwijk and Rijnsburg to form the new municipality of Katwijk with over 60,000 inhabitants. In Roman times the Roman castellum Praetorium Agrippinae was located on the site of what is now Valkenburg. It was a fortress on the Lower Germanic limes and formed an intermediate station on the road from Lugdunum Batavorum (Katwijk) to Matilo (Leiden Roomburg). This artwork comes with an aluminum Barth 916 frame (color brown) and is protected with glass.
