There are several explanations for the origin of the place name Woudrichem. The first and most likely explanation states that the place name comes from Wald and Heim, and indicates a wooded area. A second explanation is that one Mr Waldrik founded a house on the banks of the Waal. Over time, Woudrichem was pronounced and written differently. This is a preliminary study for a larger canvas that was never realized. The artwork comes with a beautiful natural frame. It is painted in acrylic on hardboard and is protected with anti-reflective glass.
