Nieuwkerkse creek, near Scherpbier, The Netherlands
The Nieuwerkerkse Creek (also: Nieuwkerkse Kreek) is a creek and nature reserve in the Nieuwe Groedsche or Oude IJvepolder south of the Dutch village of Groede. It was a side arm of the Nieuwerhavense Gat, which was created as a result of the inundations of 1583. In 1613, this sea arm was dammed by the Krabbedijk. To the west it erratically splits in two. The southern branch is connected to the nature reserves De Blikken and De Reep. The northern branch flows through the Zwartegatse Kreek to the Wielingen via the pumping station at Nieuwesluis. The creek is named after the former village of Nieuwerkerke, which finally disappeared in the waves in 1585. Torenweg and Torenhoeve north of the creek also remind us of this lost village. This artwork comes with a BARTH 1828 aluminum picture frame and is protected behind glass. Disclaimer: Photographing water colors is very difficult. It looks like the paper is extremely bumpy, but in reality it is barely visible to the naked eye.
