The Groote Gat near Oostburg is now owned by Het Zeeuwse Landschap and comprises 83 ha of creek, moist and salty grasslands, reed collars and thickets. On the east side, the area has been expanded by 6.3 hectares to increase the habitat of creeping swamp fen. The Groote Gat is one of the richest sites of this kind in the Netherlands. The Groote Gat is also known for the so-called growing stones. It concerns lime deposits that are caused by moss animals and that occur in brackish water. The artwork comes with a beautiful natural frame. It is painted in acrylic on hardboard and is protected with anti-reflective glass.
